Year Three Forest School Fun!

The Year 3 children have been enjoying autumn at Forest School. Highlights have included building fires, cooking over the campfire, pond dipping, tree climbing, using bow saws, playing ‘nest robbers’ and building dens.

The Year3 children have been building some rather fancy residences to encourage a wide variety of mini beasts into the Forest School area. Check out the magnificent ‘Bugingham Palace!’ A home fit for any queen bee! As you can see the grasshoppers have already moved in!

Getting out and About!

3G had a lovely morning planting daffodil bulbs at Old Town Recreation Ground. They worked ‘The Friends of Old Town Rec’ and Christine Aldous (Specialist Advisor Parks & Open Spaces at Eastbourne Council). The children planted hundreds of bulbs which will look fabulous in the spring. They worked hard and worked beautifully with the adult volunteers. Well done 3G!

3L will shortly be visiting the park to plant sapling, native trees. How exciting!

What’s Next?

Thanks to the wonderful ‘Friends of Ocklynge’ and your generous contributions the children will shortly be planting a giant willow dome (The Bigwig). This brilliant living structure will provide the children with a magical place to play and learn, as well as a valuable resource for coppicing. We can’t wait to get started.

The Year 3 children will be planting 600 spring bulbs. These bulbs are provided for free by Bulbs4Schools. A mixture of daffodils, hyacinths, crocus and tulips will be planted around the trees. We’re looking forward to Spring already!

Fire Wood

We are always in need of untreated wood. If you have any spare firewood or are cutting down a tree and were planning to give the wood to the tree surgeon, please think of us!
